Mitzi Baum began her role as CEO of Stop Foodborne Illness in May 2019. As CEO, Mitzi is responsible for leading and growing the organization to expand its impact of preventing foodborne illness in the United States and around the world. Prior to joining Stop, she spent 23 years at Feeding America leading their food safety advocacy work, developing programs, and assisting people affected by food insecurity. Mitzi lives in Chicago with her husband, 10-year-old daughter, and their dog. When she’s not working, Mitzi enjoys coaching her daughter’s softball team, Crossfit, yoga, reading, spending time with family and friends, cooking, and traveling.
Sarah Sorscher is Deputy Director of Regulatory Affairs at Center for Science in the Public Interest, where she works to improve consumers’ access to information about the food they eat, stop deceptive food advertising, and reduce or remove pathogens and other harmful contaminants in our food supply. Prior to joining CSPI she worked on health and safety issues at Public Citizen’s Health Research Group and served as a law clerk for the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. She holds a J.D. from the Harvard Law School, an M.P.H. from Harvard School of Public Health, and a B.A. from Amherst College.

Dr. Bruce Stewart-Brown is Senior Vice President of Technical Service and Innovation. He joined the Company in 1998. In this role, he is responsible for the Technical support (nutritional, veterinary, laboratory, live operations continuous improvement, welfare programs and compliance) as well as technical innovation (take innovative technologies from good ideas to real change within Perdue Foods everyday business.). This responsibility includes 11 feed mills, 15 hatcheries, and the health and care of 13 million chickens placed each week on family farms throughout the 14 states that Perdue is raising chickens. He is guiding Perdue’s industry-leading transformation in how the company raises chickens and was instrumental in the company’s successful transition away from antibioticsPrior to joining Perdue, he was Director of Global Technical Services for poultry at various companies including, Salisbury Labs/Solvay Animal Health/Fort Dodge Animal Health. He earned a BS in Animal Science from Iowa State University, DVM from Iowa State University and is a Diplomate from the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.

Martin received a veterinary degree and a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, and a Ph.D. in Food Science from Cornell, where he currently is the Gellert Family Professor of Food Safety. His research interests focus on farm-to-table microbial food quality and food safety. He and his team are regularly asked to help industry across the world with a range of microbial food safety and quality challenges. He received the Young Scholars award from the American Dairy Science Association in 2002, the Samuel Cate Prescott Award from Institute of Food Technologists’ in 2003, the International Life Science Institute North America Future Leaders Award in 2004, and the American Meat Institute Foundation Scientific Achievement Award in 2011. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), and a member of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology.

He is an active member of IAFP and several PDGs including the Low Moisture Foods PDG. He received the IAFP Sanitarian award (2010), its Wisconsin chapter’s (WAFP) Laboratorian of the Year award (2010) and is past Chairman of IAFP’s Food & Hygiene PDG from 2011 to 2013. He became an IAFP Fellow in 2017 and has published on a wide variety of food microbiology topics.

Asif holds his undergrad in Biochemistry and an MBA degree. He started his work in a commercial laboratory doing 3rd party analysis for food and beverage safety. Starting as a bench chemist, Asif moved his way up through R&D, Lab Management, and finally Director of Sales before pursuing his MBA degree and joining Weber Scientific, where he focuses on utilizing his past lab experience to help improve quality and sanitation programs within the food and beverage industries.
