“Repeats” found in Management Systems’ Audits have been a nagging occurrence since the world of management systems began.  No matter what type of audit we have, it seems like there are always those frustrating “repeats”. “But we fixed that!” is frequently heard during audits.

The answer, in my experience, is to have an effective corrective action process supported by Top Management.

  • “Findings”: Do they truly identify the issue?  Do they provide a clear understanding of the “weakness” and are they written based on “facts”
  • Do the responsible parties truly identify the “root cause”? It is not always “training.”
  • Is there an understanding of the issue so that a true “root cause” can be identified.
  • Are you giving the “fix” time enough to confirm it was “effective”?

This webinar will review the “corrective action” (CA) process, which will include examples of how to truly use this “process” to an advantage, reducing “repeats.”

An industry professional told me one day that he found the CA process very effective because “it is the to-do list that doesn’t go away.”

Learning Objectives

  • We will review how to write a finding based on fact. We can’t fix it if we don’t know what we have to fix.
  • We will review some of the basic tools that can be used to identify a true root cause. Sometimes we uncover several issues that could be connected to the problem.
  • How to determine exactly what it will take or what must be reviewed including the time frame to do this – to confirm effectiveness of the actions taken.

Most importantly we will learn how to address the situation if the action is not effective.
