Douglas L. Marshall, PhD, CFS, Chief Scientific Officer, Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories
Out-of-spec (OOS) validation and verification data points are a gift to manufacturers; however, too often such opportunities are not fully exploited. Process validation data points prove that pathogen and allergen control programs are working as intended. Once properly validated, periodic verification data points demonstrate that daily controls are producing the desired outcome. An OOS validation record is evidence that the process is not working as intended and needs to be corrected before use. An OOS verification record is evidence that a validated process is no longer working in practice. This talk will give examples of OOS-triggered root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
